1) Use all of your senses. Start with sight. Look at the wine. If possible hold it up to the light or a white background. Try to notice if the wine is clear or cloudy. Analyze the color, different strains and ages vary in color.
2) Next is smell. Swirl the wine in the glass. This optimizes the releasing of the bouquet of aromas. Notice hints of floral or woody scents and anything in between.
